VMT is involved in Australian’s largest railway tunnel project – the North West Rail Link

+ + +

The A$8.3 billion North West Rail Link is the most extensive public transport infrastructure project in New South Wales currently and is used to connect more remote parts of the city of Sydney to the transport network and to develop new housing and job opportunities.

Overall, the existing railway line is to be extended by 23 km and eight new stations from Epping to Cudgegong Road at Rouse Hill. This includes the construction of a new railway tunnel between Epping to Bella Vista. Until now, this tunnel is with a length of 15 km, the longest tunnel in Australia.

To realize this project, a combination of Roadheaders and TBMs will perform the drilling. VMT supports the segment production with our segment documentation system SDS.

The North West Rail Link is expected to open to customers by the end of 2019.

VMT takes part with a SLS-Mircortunnelling LT system.

The installation of the navigation system is in this case carried out by our Australian colleages of VMT Tunnel Guidance Pty Ltd.. The measurements will be performed together with VMT (Shanghai) Technical Measurement Co. , Ltd..

With the North Strathfield Rail Underpass project, new connections for freight trains will be built. VMT takes part with a SLS-Roadheader system.

Customer profits from VMT hardware-improvement in the field of Conventional Tunnelling. Our control boxes connect all VMT system components and convert sensor and total station data to PC-readable data. Contrary, they convert PC commands to requested formats of components. For North Strathfield Rail Underpass, we first delivered a control box with integrated PC after considerably tests.

In utilization, it means that Roadheader can be navigated via tablet PC outside of the machine. This is a great help for the driver cause control can be done from a save position at jobsite.

In total, 2,4 km new track are built and 850 m excisting track modernized.

Since March 2012, we had the 1st TUnIS Navigation Gripper System running in India – now, we can announce it´s successful breakthrough!

With a length of 6456 m and a diameter of 6,25 m, a watertunnel for fresh watter supply was built in Mumbai. The entire water network of Mimbai will be modernized since 2025 and deliver 12 million inhabitants with 3.900 million liter water per day.

Congratulations to the successful project finish!

Microtunnelling curved drives now also find their way to Canada. For the Keswick Outfall project in Toronto, we can report on 2 successful breakthroughs.

2 reaches with lenght of 320 m and 210 m and diameter of each 1.200 m have been successfully driven with a VMT Navigation System SLS-Microtunnelling LT. Biggest challenge was buoying upwards of pipes which we could master with our VMT team on-site.

Next advance will start in June 2013.
