First microtunnelling navigation platform that combines all conventional navigation techniques

VMT introduces TUnIS Navigation MT
A uniform microtunnelling navigation platform for all well-established and proven navigation technologies: That is the idea behind TUnIS Navigation MT from VMT, which for the first time combines machine guidance with laser and target, hydrostatic level, gyroscope as well as moving laser total station in one product line.

The complete solution of the navigation specialist guarantees a simple and uncomplicated change between the individual navigation modes, meaning navigation can be optimally suited to a project’s requirements. Even a trouble-free switch to segmental tunnelling can be done, since VMT’s own solutions for large tunnel projects are based on the same platform. The user benefits from the uniform system structure and can quickly adjust to the different navigation modes. This guarantees the greatest possible flexibility and efficiency when managing projects.

„With the SLS-Microtunnelling and UNS (Universal Navigation System) product series, we have stood for precise and reliable navigation of microtunnelling drives of all kinds for years,” says Jürgen Göckel, Business Developer Microtunnelling at VMT.

“After about two years of development work we have now combined these two navigation technologies on the standard TUnIS Navigation MT system platform – very much attuned to market needs: In addition to our own experience of the past years, the navigation solution also incorporates valuable feedback and a variety of client and user-requested features.”

The hardware concept has also undergone intensive further development and corresponds to the latest standard: With the new MT.connect hardware platform, in future intelligent, compatible and efficient tunnel hardware infrastructure is ensured. TUnIS Navigation MT is completely “future-ready” and as an open system can easily integrate all new and further developments in the microtunnelling business.

In a first step, TUnIS Navigation MT has been introduced in the Herrenknecht tunnelling systems beginning January 2020, replacing the previous UNS gyro navigation system.

From mid-2020 onwards, the associated stand-alone version based on the new MT.connect optimised hardware platform will also be available, replacing the SLS microtunnelling product series. With the integration of the moving laser total station, the scope of services is then complete.

About VMT

With its surveying systems and services, VMT has been one of the leading providers in tunnel construction for over 25 years.

With the help of VMT solutions, construction companies create tunnels and shafts of all sizes for increasingly complex infrastructure projects: The navigation systems for tunnelling machines, the production and logistics management system for segment production, and system solutions for safety, information and monitoring take on key functions. The individual modules can be combined to form efficient, modern network solutions that guarantee the best process and seamless quality assurance for every tunnel project.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Bruchsal, Germany, the VMT Group has over 220 employees worldwide. It is part of the Herrenknecht Group, the global market leader in mechanical tunnelling technology, and has already successfully worked on almost 2,400 tunnel drives around the world.
