1st tunnel with TUnIS completed in Canada

For the first time a tunnel with TUnIS was completed in Canada, Saskatoon.

The machine with a diameter of 2.5 m managed its advance length of 1.5 km within one year. Except of TUnIS the TBM had also installed a camera system and a stroke measuring system for the articulation cylinder from VMT. The jobsite was also equipped with the IRIS.tunnelviewer.  The difficulty was that rib and lagging were used as the primary tunnel liner. Small boulders in the subsoil constitute a problem, because the stopped the advance of the TBM from time to time. So the boulders hat to be blasted and crushed with little charges.

The second machine will start in summer 2014.
