Climatic challenges in Canada
In this project, people and materials were challenged to the utmost. Since October 2013 two SLS Microtunnelling LT systems run in Toronto permanently.
So far, they did 5, up to 600 m long, and a lot of short advance. With a diameter of 1.2 m, this is a challenge, but the Canadian winter was doing its part to aggravate the conditions further. With up to -40 ° C, it was one of the coldest winters in the history of Toronto. Especially were the extremely small and low starting shafts. To equip all machines with our system and to cope with the resulting surveying tasks, we had to be permanently on site for 6 months.
The next advance over 630 m, which has just started, has HADES is an integral part in the on-site communication. Since April our partner “Check-Point Vermessung GmbH” has taken over the servicing for this project.
In early June, the project was completed successfully. The first used surveying gyroscope of VMT in North America worked great.
